This video is an extremely condensed selection of some crazy event clips we @ Team Hall & Nass and #Motorama LIVE filmed between 2009 & 2014. Most of what you’ll see here is never before seen, raw, and unpublished footage.
NOTE – A lot of the early days footage was shot in SD, so unfortunately, we had to process those scenes in SD to include those clips. Darn those days before we acquired all the 1080p GoPros!
ALSO NOTE – Some scenes were filmed on a closed course, with professional drivers … (blah, blah, blah). But some of it is from our road rally days, back when we didn’t give 2 flips about “the rules” (as if we ever really did anyway). Haters gonna hate, but our fans are gonna LOVE it!
So get in, sit down, strap in and hang on tight! We’re about to shred a LOT of tires, pass a LOT of cars and show you a glimpse of what we’ve been up to over the past 5 years.
In closing, we’d like to remind you …
IF YOU’VE JUST BEEN PASSED, YOU’RE NOT HALL & NASS
Team Hall & Nass loves a good road trip. Granted, many road trips in our past have been those good ol’ fashioned crossing the country in a bit of a hurry types of drives, blasting from checkpoint to checkpoint, stopping only long enough to grab a route card or to gas and go! However, some road trips are more about the journey than racing toward the destination. And sometimes, it’s those destinations along the way that are what the journey is all about. Taking time to stop and enjoy the many sights, sounds and oddities along the way. Searching for good food, great people, and some true old fashioned roadside Americana. Yep, this story is that kind of ride.
While reading an issue of Hot Rod Magazine this past summer, we perused their list of Top 57 Gearhead Destinations. One of the most unique roadside attractions listed was a pecan pie vending machine. The article stated: “In Cedar Creek, Texas, you can buy an entire pecan pie from a vending machine. An entire pie. From a vending machine!”
Having inquisitive minds, once we learned of this feat of engineering foodie goodness, we had questions. How does one vend pecan pies from a vending machine? Do you simply enter coins, push a button and watch as an entire pie falls out of a slot? How could it remain cold? How fresh could it really be? It didn’t take long before we decided that a road trip deep into the heart of Texas must be made in our quest for answers and to quench our sudden urge for sticky sweet pecan pie.
We saddled up an appropriately Texas-sized vehicle for our trek across the Lone Star State in the latest Cowboy Cadillac, a 2013 Ford F-350 Platinum Super Duty, and set off on a journey that took us across the vast, flat prairies, slightly beyond the boundaries of Texas Hill Country. Roughly 15 miles east of Austin on Texas Highway 71, we found what could well be one of the coolest things ever placed in a coin operated dispenser.
It may be easy to drive through Cedar Creek, Texas without knowing you’ve passed it, but there is no missing where the Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company is located. There is a giant digital sign on the westbound side of Hwy. 71 that scrolls PECANS, PECAN PIE, etc. that could make those truck stop signs on the Interstates feel a bit inferior. But on the off chance you don’t look a mile into the sky and see the giant digital welcome, you may drive off the highway in startled amazement when you are greeted by the sight of Ms. Pearl, the world’s largest squirrel! Lest you think we are kidding about this, we parked the F-350 next to Ms. Pearl to give you an idea of just how big the squirrels are in Texas. This ought to give you an idea of how many acres of pecans exist on the Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company property.
After having fun posing with Ms. Pearl, we walked upon the giant front porch of the store. Just as our fellow gearheads at Hot Rod had promised, there it was! Behold – A vending machine that dispenses entire pecan pies! That’s right, folks! An entire pie. From a vending machine!
Of course, we filmed a video. When don’t we nowadays? When we finally get around to posting it, we’ll add the link to this article. Until then, you’ll have to read on to find out how this works.
We entered the store and visited with the proprietors. After we told them why we were there, a long discussion ensued, and we soon discovered many fascinating things about the family. The 20,000 tree pecan farm that stretches out for miles (everything is big in Texas) behind the store belonged to Hal and Lisa Berdoll for 33 years. The Berdolls’ daughter Jennifer and her husband Jared own and operate the Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company. The original gift shop was a garage where Hal and Lisa sold their fresh pecans to the public. Over the years, as demand continued to grow, they branched out into offering all sorts of pecan treats, candies and, of course, pies. When their daughter and son in law took over operation of the store, they built a larger facility, including an on premise processing and production plant. While the family farm was recently sold so Hal and Lisa could retire, their daughter continues to own and operate the store, which still sells fresh pecans direct from the farm.
As a family business, the Berdolls often found it difficult to close their store at the end of the day, as there was always someone pulling into the lot after closing time looking for pecan pies, and they didn’t like turning their customers away. After years of missing dinner due to staying open late to accommodate those last minute sales, their daughter came up with an idea. Why not sell their pecan treats from a vending machine? What started out as a novel idea has turned into an impressive after hours profit center. Not only can you buy bags of pecan treats in various varieties and flavors, you can also buy an entire fresh pecan pie. And according to those in the store, they sell a lot of pies through the machine. So many that they have to restock it daily, and often multiple times a day.
Armed with this information, and a GoPro, we proceeded back outside to the vending machine. We placed our $20 bill in the slot, selected the appropriate product number, and then watched as something magical happened. Through the looking glass, an entire pecan pie began to move forward, then dropped down into the retrieval area, followed by our .50 cents into the change cup. It was cold, it was wrapped in cellophane, and it was a thing of beauty! That’s right, folks. We bought an entire fresh pecan pie from a vending machine An entire pie. From a vending machine! What more could you ask for?
Afterward, we attacked the pie with great vim and vigor. Forks flew, bites chewed, and the sweet taste of pecans in sticky, gooey goodness ensued. The verdict? It was one of the best pecan pies we’ve ever tasted! Even better, it came from a vending machine. Don’t you love classic roadside Americana? We certainly do!
To experience pecan pie vending bliss for yourself, visit the Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Company on Hwy. 71 in Cedar Creek, Texas, and don’t forget to bring a fork! If you cannot make it down to Texas, but you’d like to order one of their delectable pecan treats online, visit http://www.berdollpecanfarm.com. God Bless Texas!

Team Hall & Nass and #Motorama LIVE got their hands on a brand new 2013 Ford Raptor, AND received special permission* from the folks at Ford SVT to mount our GoPro cams to said 2013 Raptor and take it on a couple of “hot laps” while at the 2012 Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) Truck Rodeo to show viewers the full capabilities of the Raptor when pushed hard both on, and off road, on a closed course.
NOTE – This video has MINIMAL talking, quite a bit of driving, and LOTS of HOONing! In fact, their are 24 minutes of HOONage and only 90 seconds of talking for your viewing pleasure. This footage includes a mixture of in truck, on truck, and chase truck footage shot during three different circuits of the entire OffRoad 4×4 testing course at the TAWA Truck Rodeo, located at the beautiful Knibbe Ranch about 30 miles outside of San Antonio, Texas in the Hill Country. This video features the entire 4×4 closed circuit course as few have ever seen it – fast, loud, sideways, and (sometimes) airborne.

Now for some political housekeeping …
* To any and all Ford peeps, concerned citizens, and fellow TAWA members who may view this video, please note the following: We were granted permission to HOON the course after previous ride along and sign off by the Ford SVT OffRoad driving specialist on site. Most of the vehicles driven around the TAWA Truck Rodeo course are done so in a much gentler fashion, by us, as well as most others. The driving highlighted in this footage is an exception at this event, not the rule. This is a closed course, and I’m a professional”ish” driver. Enjoy!
The lovely Jennifer from Team Hall & Nass and #Motorama LIVE, along with our good friend Raj from Ford Special Vehicle Teams, provide a walk through of the new features on the 2013 Ford Raptor SVT, including the specialized Ford decal application process, the new OEM optional bead lock capable rims, HID headlights and the new application of MyFord Touch. If you are not already familiar with how to use the MyFord Touch system, this video also provides a high level overview of how to use different system functions.

So what is it like to drive the all new 662 horsepower 2013 Shelby GT 500? Tighten down your belts, because Team Hall & Nass is about to give you a taste of the baddest snake ever released into the WILD here in Texas!
#Motorama LIVE and Team Hall & Nass were lucky enough to the the 1st media outlet in the state of Texas (& one of the first in the US) to be granted time alone behind the wheel of the all new 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 in the wild. Though we only had a couple hours to play with it, and only had a cell phone cam with us, we managed to capture the following “1st Impression” video just for you, our loyal and awesome fans! The quality might be jittery and rough, but hey, how many 2013 GT 500 videos exist in June 2012? Exactly. So sit back, hold on tight and enjoy the ride as we share of 1st impression of this awesome machine with YOU!
The Mission – Drive down 90 miles of two lane blacktop on a closed public highway, breaking the light beam on the other end at as close to a perfect 150 MPH average in 36 Minutes FLAT as humanly possible.
The following is the Motorama LIVE Team Hall & Nass Corvette Z06 Open Road Racing in the 150 MPH Class at the Nevada Open Road Challenge (NORC) on Nevada Highway NV 318, May 20th, 2012. This is the Spring race, which is an exact replica of the Silver State Classic Challenge (SSCC) that runs every September.
PLEASE NOTE – Our race grid footage was chopped off to allow this video to begin at the true exact zeroing ‘0’ of the SSCC atomic timing and scoring clock on professional editing software. This video shows our entire run in all of its raw, unedited glory, then continues on less than a minute after the finish line as we say our recorded time aloud and exchange high fives. So sit back and enjoy 36 minutes of LS7 singing along two lane blacktop for 90 miles in an attempt to average a perfect 150 MPH average speed in 36 minutes flat on NV 318.
Additional information on this run:
As stated above, the goal in the 150 MPH Class at NORC and SSCC is to run the 90 mile course on NV 318 in 36 minutes flat at a perfect 150 MPH average. This is time/speed/distance racing on an uber scale.
The Result – Silver State Classic Challenge official timing and scoring listed our run as 36:00.5473 seconds at an average speed of 149.9620 MPH.
What is interesting is that our clocks (and the one on this video) show us as running it in 35:59.88 seconds at just a tick over 150 MPH. Ironically, note that IF our time of .12 of a second off of perfect had been recognized as our official scoring time, it still would have only been good enough for 3rd place out of the 14 entrants in the 150 MPH Class, as the winning time was a 35:59.0164. Yes, the competition in the 150 MPH Class is THAT tight! However, SSCC official time puts us in 6th place overall in the 150 MPH Class.
This video just goes to show that no matter how good YOU may think you are in time/speed/distance Open Road Racing, the fact remains that in the end, you are ONLY as good as someone else’s timing system in the official record books. Like it or not, sometimes, those are just the breaks in ORR.
We race because we love the speed, the people and the cars. The love of the sport is our friend, even if sometimes, the timing clocks are not.
Motorama LIVE raced in the Nevada Open Road Challenge #NORC on May 20th, 2012, as did a GM Buick Factory Race Team. This is our interview at the finish line with Bill Rietow, Buick Lead Product Engineer, telling us all about his run in the 2012 Buick Regal GS in the 135 MPH Class.
Bill and his navigator John Townsend won the 120 MPH Class at the Silver State Classic Challenge Open Road Race back in September. Hear Bill talk about how he believes they did today in the 135 Class, as well as how well a stock Buick Regal GS felt racing over 90 miles of 2 lane public highway at speeds up to 161 MPH!
Thank you to our good friends at Buick! Today, they were truly Hall & Nass! :@)~
