http://youtu.be/d7FfTvwNu2w

This video is an extremely condensed selection of some crazy event clips we @ Team Hall & Nass and #Motorama LIVE filmed between 2009 & 2014. Most of what you’ll see here is never before seen, raw, and unpublished footage.

NOTE – A lot of the early days footage was shot in SD, so unfortunately, we had to process those scenes in SD to include those clips. Darn those days before we acquired all the 1080p GoPros!

ALSO NOTE – Some scenes were filmed on a closed course, with professional drivers … (blah, blah, blah). But some of it is from our road rally days, back when we didn’t give 2 flips about “the rules” (as if we ever really did anyway). Haters gonna hate, but our fans are gonna LOVE it!

So get in, sit down, strap in and hang on tight! We’re about to shred a LOT of tires, pass a LOT of cars and show you a glimpse of what we’ve been up to over the past 5 years.

In closing, we’d like to remind you …

IF YOU’VE JUST BEEN PASSED, YOU’RE NOT HALL & NASS

Team Hall & Nass Picked for the 2011 Mopar MoVenture Rally

Team Hall & Nass was selected by Mopar Fans to Represent Team Fiat

DALLAS, Texas, July 14th, 2011 – Team Hall & Nass today officially announce they are in the field representing Team Fiat for the first ever Mopar MoVenture Rally, to be held on 2,000 miles of highways and byways across the United States from Detroit, MI to Golden, CO, July 15th – 21st, 2011.

Team Hall & Nass are both lucky and humbled to be one of only ten teams selected to compete in the Mopar MoVenture Rally. They were voted into the field by Mopar and Fiat fans around the globe on Mopar.com/MoVenture, subjected to a full physical and DMV background check, and then approved by the Chrysler Group and Mopar for participation.

Mopar MoVenture Rally is a weeklong 2,000 mile road rally competition between Detroit, MI and Golden, CO held from July 15th – 21st, 2011. The MoVenture continues after the finish line as teams will be given the VIP treatment by Mopar at the NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals, July 21st – 23rd.

The entire Mopar MoVenture Rally will be performed using ten different Chrysler Group automobiles, two from each of their Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Fiat brands. Each of the ten teams will be driving the same vehicle they are assigned by respective brand from rally start to finish. In addition, all team members have been informed they will have access to drive one of every new vehicle within the five Chrysler Group brands upcoming 2012 lineup somewhere along the route at select venues, including all of the upcoming new SRT vehicles. That is a pretty sweet deal.

The exact route and challenges that await all competing MoVenture Rally teams are being kept under closely guarded secret by Mopar staff. However, Team Hall & Nass have learned a few previously non-disclosed details they would like to share with their fans. The MoVenture Rally will begin at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Detroit. MoVenture will be a true points championship event based on a combination of points earned via time/speed/distance target accuracy between checkpoints, physical competitions at select stops, vehicular competitions at racing and off-road venues, and a few other “surprises” thrown into the mix. Also discovered is that teams will lose points for arriving at checkpoints too soon in an effort to keep road rally speeds at acceptable OEM levels.

As Team Hall & Nass fans are aware, with a rich background in time/speed/distance Open Road Racing, timing the checkpoint arrivals won’t be a new challenge for Team Hall & Nass to conquer, even if the physical challenges get down and dirty. So competitors beware! Pirate Pig has put you all on notice. Team Hall & Nass will be first at every checkpoint no matter what!

In addition to the Mopar MoVenture Rally, Team Hall & Nass fans have a lot to follow this month, as they are participating in both the Bullrun Live Rally and the Dustball Rally during the month of July, as well as their own Pirate Pig ROOT 66 fun run during the first week of August from Las Vegas, Nevada to Oklahoma City, and then on to Dallas, Texas for a total of more than 10,000 miles of road rallying. May the car gods have mercy on their souls!

Team Hall & Nass would like to publicly thank all of the fans who voted them into the Mopar MoVenture Rally, and to thank all of the fine folks at Mopar for the opportunity to participate. With friends like these, and mad rally skills to boot, keep an eye on Team Hall & Nass, as they will no doubt be in it to win it!

About the Mopar MoVenture Rally

The green flag is about to drop on the first ever Mopar MoVenture Road Rally, as ten two-person teams pilot a wide range of 2012/2011 Chrysler Group LLC vehicles over the course of 2,000 miles in seven days.

Beginning at – of course – the Chrysler Museum in Detroit, Michigan, the teams will set off on their journey on July 15 and reach the finish line on July 21, in Golden, Colorado at the NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationals. Along the way, they’ll visit iconic scenes of Americana, face fast, muddy and surprising challenges, and battle for the chance to be crowned MoVenture champion!

Over twenty teams were crazy enough to compete for this grueling road trip, so you know there must be a pretty sweet Grand Prize at stake. The winning team of two will win $5,000 in Mopar parts and accessories!

After a very difficult selection process, we’re proud to introduce the contestants who have been chosen to participate in MoVenture this summer! Visit Mopar.com/Moventure/Teams to meet the lucky winners, and special thanks to all the Mopar fans that submitted so many great video applications.

MoVenture will be a high-octane test of power, speed and wits. Follow along with our daily feeds and video highlights to see which team comes out on top. Who knows, we may even see you at one of the stops! For additional information on the Mopar MoVenture Rally, visit Mopar.com/MoVenture

Team Hall & Nass Enter the Dustball Rally 1500

Team Hall & Nass Enter the Dustball Rally 1500

Johnny Hall & Taylor Nass are back with an agenda … to win the elusive Dustball Rally

DALLAS, Texas, August 4th, 2010 – Team Hall & Nass today officially announced their entry into one of the most challenging gimmick rally events in the United States, the Dustball Rally 1500, to be held on the highways and byways of the southwestern United States, August 13th – 15th, 2010.

Hailed among automotive enthusiasts as the “last great American gimmick rally,” the Dustball Rally is one of the most challenging and most exciting events held in the world of automobile rallying. The Dustball Rally is an annual, multi-day, multi-stage gimmick rally, played out over a 1,500 mile predetermined route known only to the event organizers. Competitors are handed a packet of information at each checkpoint containing a quiz sheet. Teams learn of their next destination only by solving a series of riddles, mathematical problems, and by locating a series of clues along the route to fill in the blanks on their quiz sheet. Those answers ultimately reveal the direction they need to head in to reach their final destination each day. It is nothing short of automotive driving and navigation madness at its best.

Driver Johnny Hall and Co-Driver/Navigator Taylor Nass made quite an impression on the 2009 Dustball Rally when they piloted their 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZHZ Z51 convertible to the front of the field each day. That event ran from El Paso, Texas to Las Vegas, Nevada and back to El Paso via a maze of back roads, twisty mountain passes and desert straightaways. For 2010, Team Hall & Nass have entered the Dustball Rally with a “mystery car” with plans to unveil their new machine on the starting grid. No one knows for sure what they are bringing, but if history is any indicator, it will be something unexpected, and without a doubt, it will be fast.

Driver Johnny Hall said, “The Dustball Rally 1500 is the most unique event I’ve ever driven in. We’ve raced in a bit of everything over the years, but nothing comes close to the challenges that await those who are brave enough (or crazy enough) to enter the Dustball Rally. It is an awesome event that no rally team in the world should ever miss!”

Team Hall & Nass’ amazing (and sometimes almost unbelievable) tales of adventure were chronicled in a series of nineteen posts, released throughout September 2009 on TeamHallnNass.com. The tales they shared read not so much like those of a typical gimmick rally team, but more like a real life Smokey and the Bandit meets Cannonball Run story with a gimmick rally thrown into the mix.

Even though the Dustball Rally is “a rally, not a race,” Team Hall & Nass is gunning for the overall win that eluded their grasp last year after a valiant, multi-day front-running effort was robbed from them by the rogue forces of the evil Hamthrax who quite literally blocked their path to victory. For 2010, Team Hall & Nass have made special Hamthrax evasion preparations for the event to ensure they are both highly competitive (and highly invisible when need be) in their quest for victory.

About the Dustball Rally 1500

Hailed among enthusiasts as the “last great American gimmick rally,” the Dustball Rally 1500 is one of the most challenging and most exciting events held in the world of automobile rallying. The Dustball Rally is an annual, multi-day, multi-stage gimmick rally, held on a predetermined route known only to the event organizers. Dustball is a 100% legal gimmick rally, held on open, public roads throughout the Southwestern United States. It is billed as “a rally, not a race.” In reality, it is the world’s craziest scavenger hunt spread out over 1,500 miles, mostly by skilled rally teams in specially prepared exotic and high performance automobiles.

Unlike many underground road races, Dustball Rally winners are not determined based on time, speed or distance. Rather, the winner is the team who successfully solves the most riddles, finds the most clues, and navigates their way across 1,500 miles of highways and byways in time to reach the finish line. This type of an event demands a much greater level of skill, cooperation and competition versus the more typical “find the checkpoint in ‘X’ town and state” format used by most major rally events. The addition of searching for clues in both directions of the course poses a whole other level of psychological challenge that tests the abilities of even veteran rally teams.

The Dustball Rally is organized, produced and promoted by rally veteran Andrew Medley of El Paso, Texas. In addition to the annual Dustball Rally 1500, the franchise also holds an annual one day rally event, the Dustball 500. For 2010, they added a GPS coordinate-based event to the mix, the Dustball Challenge. For more information on the Dustball Rally 1500, or any of the other Dustball series events, please visit DustballRally.com.

If You’ve Missed Us OR If You Are Just Tuning In …

21 10 2009

Greetings to all of our wonderful Team Hall & Nass fans! As you may have noticed, we paused our daily posting of chapters from our Dustball Rally Recap a bit ago at a transitional point in the tale. We know the pause disappointed a few of you (as some of you let us know via email & on Twitter), and bless you for caring enough to let us know! However, after 22 posts in a row, we felt y’all might have needed a little break from us going on and on about our antics. Frankly, we needed one from writing, editing and posting them too. Hey, the stats don’t lie (some of you were clearly getting tired of checking in daily)! Those number fluctuated that last week like a tachometer would if a six year old was pressing the pedal! 😉

A special note to our new readers (and to those who haven’t checked in for a bit). If you would like to catch up on the story of our 2009 Dustball 1500 Recap, or if you’d just enjoy another fast stroll down memory lane, we encourage you to CONTACT US FOR THE PASSWORDS, and then go back to our September 2009 posts and start reading from the actual beginning (Forward, Preface, Chapter 1, etc.) That way you can enjoy (or relive) all of the zany antics and dramatics of our Dustball story in full and proper effect!

However, before we simply start posting more Dustball stories, we plan to shake things up and begin sharing some other exciting things we have been up to during our blogging hiatus. There have been some hijinks going on and there are a few fun tales to be shared! So stay tuned as we begin transitioning this blog into a place where we share multiple things of interest to you, the automotive, racing and rally faithful!

Here’s a peek at some new things on the horizon …

New Category – Real World Reviews by Team Hall & Nass

As many of you know, we rent more cars than the law should allow. We also find ourselves getting behind the wheel of many new factory cars and some cool exotics on occasion too! We have been off gathering data on some of those various cool cars we’ve been driving lately and have started compiling that information into write ups we are going to post as reviews. What’s that, you say? Yawn? Oh no! Wait for it …

How many people would actually write a “review” of cars the way you think Team Hall & Nass might? That’s right. Rather than posting “traditional” automotive reviews, we are going to share stories with you of how the vehicles perform via real world driving experiences that can only be captured through using the cars as true automotive enthusiasts would. Don’t expect simple reviews based on horsepower stats, fuel mileage numbers and ergonomic interior reports.  Those elements may be covered, but not in the way you are used to reading about them. You want basic stats? Pick up the manufacturer’s brochure or read what traditional reviews (i.e. Motor Trend) have to say. We will instead focus on relaying the stories of where these cars shine and where they may have failed to perform during real “enthusiast-style” driving via that Team Hall & Nass dramatic storytelling style you’ve come to love and enjoy. The stories will be every bit as good in the reading as they were in the driving. We won’t hold back.

To truly add icing on the cake, we will be doing something even cooler. Not only will you read what Johnny thinks about the cars, but you’ll also read what Taylor has to say about them too. The female perspective in an automotive review can be quite intriguing, especially from one who can drive it as well as navigate it. So you’ll get to read what it’s like from both seats AND from both gender perspectives. Trust me, it’s already gotten interesting, as you’ll read soon enough!

Thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy lives to read and share in our experiences. We hope y’all continue to enjoy our crazy tales from behind the wheel, under the hood and out on the roads!

Johnny & Taylor
